We are all hoping the Covid enemy will go away soon so we can get on with our hiking adventures. Stick with the rules, stay safe and we will persevere.
The sCharger-5 (S5) is a powerful ultralight and compact solar charger.
The S5 is the official solar charger on the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) because it's categorized as an ultralight solar charger. A must-have for the endurance hiker.
Most likely you have seen many S5’s on the trails. Including the John Muir, Appalachian, Continental Divide and others. The S5 provides the best power to weight ratio including the added durability.
The S5 is also very useful in power outages and other situations where power is not available. Your phone can be charged up completely using only the sun.

Testing the performance of the Suntactics sCharger-5 vs other adapters
Suntactics sCharger-5: maximum output 6Watts. 5.1V/~1200mA depending on weather conditions and USB device and battery capacity. But we guarantee at least 1000mA which is very efficient for such a small solar charger.
The iPhone has been completely drained of power, each test started at 0% at the beginning, and finished at 100%. Weather conditions for the sCharger-5 test in October skies, San Jose CA, under direct sunlight, no clouds or haze in the sky. In this test, we logged the status of the phone charge percentage in 15 minute intervals. The phone placed in the shade to prevent overheating from the sun.
-Suntactics sCharger-5: 2 hours and 35 minutes
-Apple OEM certified AC adaptor: 2 hours
-PC computer USB port: 4 hours
The sCharger-5, under the right conditions can charge nearly as fast as a basic wall adapter included with the iPhone. But in order to attain these same results, the sCharger-5 should be within 30 degrees direct sunlight.
The sCharger-5 supports most all USB devices, including all the latest iPhone's, Samsung phones and most all power banks. The sCharger basically mimics the output power of a wall charger, but we are also working with mother nature and there will be power fluctuations as with any solar charger.

Smart Auto-Retry Technology
The panels are completely encapsulated. The circuits are sealed in silicon. Tested to 40 feet and corrosion resistant! Corrosion tests require placing the solar panel in a 85% salt humid environment for 48 hours. We ran ours at 72 hours. Suntactics solar chargers are pretty much impervious to all moisture.
Suntactics US Patented Auto-Retry. Some devices will not continue to charge if they see a fluctuation in power like a slow moving cloud. Complete shadowing of the sun can cause this fluctuation. Suntactics sChargers will re-start charging within minutes after a power fluctuation.
Suntactics sChargers make an excellent electrical hub for outdoor gatherings, parties, concerts, or camping trips where you’re miles away from electricity. Great for military use, natural disasters and tested to 20F below zero.
We use custom made solar panel equipment to asssmble our solar chargers. Every solar charger that leaves our facility are fully tested and meticulously inspected by seasoned technicians.
